First of all, Thanks so much for all of the 45 entries!!! All of them so amazing. They made me laugh, cry, sing dance and one even scared me. yikes! I even want to learn to juggle, rap, wrap present better, and look both ways before crossing the street. Be careful! Awe, the kids, you gotta love the kids. But, most of all it was a fun little project to do. Don’t you agree? People from all over the world entered, South Africa, Sweden, UK, Brazil, Costa Rica, and across the US. Thanks for sharing 12 seconds of your life with us and most of all your time and talent to be creative and tell us why you want to come to Italy.
Honestly, Jose and I would love to take all of you with us. What a fun and crazy group this would be. It was a extremely hard decision to make, and it took all morning for me to do. But, here are the top 3 + 1 videos in particular order. The public will decide the winner of the scholarship. If you are in the top 3 + 1, we encourage you to get your friends to vote, twitter and facebook it. The winner will be announced on Friday, June 12 at 5:00 p.m. PST.
All votes must be cast here in the comments section. We ask that they simply post the videos name and why they think it’s the winning video.
Good luck to all of the top 3+1.

Robert Evans and Curt Appanovich the creators of photography mentor were in San Francisco last week, for the Photo-fusion Tour. Some of you may know of Robert Evans, he shot Tom Cruise + Katie Holmes and Brad Pitt’s first wedding to Jennifer Aniston a couple of years back. Amazing! They were kind enough to ask me to do a wedding model photoshoot. Photography Mentor is a educational website for the up and coming or seasoned wedding photographer. Photography Mentor is one of the best social medias out there for wedding photographers in San San Francisco and abroad.
Jaime Dollaga is THE amazing San Francisco based model who was happy to be my bride for the day. Armando Sarabia got her do up and glammed up her make up. All of her amazing handmade jewelery was from Lindsie Jones of Haute Bride and Jose gave me the dress. Thanks everyone for the hook up.

I feel in Love with Conneticut about 4 years ago and have been fortunate enough to shoot some weddings out there. I am thrilled to be returning, hanging with friends and meeting some new ones. So I would LOVE it if you guys could be there too!! Plus, I am definitely hitting up Pepe’s Pizza. My buddy Harvey Goldstien introduced me to Pepe’s. Ever since, I have compared every slice to it. Hands down Pepe’s is the best pizza in the nation. IMHO.
The workshop will be launching at 9am (EST) on Monday morning and seating is VERY limited. To keep the group intimate and be able to give personal attention to every attendee, we will only be accepting the first 20 people who sign up. So make sure to set those iPhone alarms, so you don’t miss out! Feel free to email me if you have any questions at gene@genehiga.com.

{ thank you and hugs }
January 2, 2009This post comes to you from the Charlotte, North Carolina airport. I have some down time before catching my next flight into Puerto Rico. Yes, I am already traveling for 2 weddings and speaking at Imaging USA, for 2009. On the plane and out of my luggage for the next two weeks. Crazy, I had to pack for warm and freezing weather this time. I barley had time to get rest when I returned home from Los Angeles.
As the year came to an end I wanted to thank all of my clients with a blog post and do a little recap. 2008 I did 48 weddings, 2 workshops and traveled for 8 of those weddings. Ann shot all of the destination weddings and she took me to a couple of hers. We moved out of the studio in Cow Hollow and into loft spaces. I think Ann misses thew studio. but, we had to move into bigger spaces for shooting and what not. Plus change is good. They say if you are comfortable, your not growing. The year went too fast and Tanya did a great job keeping up with all of the production. We have a couple of more pressing items to finish and we plan on getting those out the door by next week.
2009 will be my 13th year in the wedding industry. Looking forward to Speaking at WPPI in February. Launching both my gallery and workshops website. I think the workshops are what I am most excited about. It’s a passion of mine to teach and help others achieve their dreams. I have one other website that I am working. It’s going to rock!!! No hints yet, but trust me this one is going to be huge. I have been wanting to do this site for some time now and I am finally going to make the time to do it. All I can say is all of my industry friends will benefit from this. It’s time for me to give back.
Below are a set of images we have been creating throughout the year. I love taking pictures with my clients. Some jumping some, casual, but mainly fun. I love all of my clients. Some of us have become friends. Going to football games, brainstorming new business ideas and mostly just good times. Thanks everyone for allowing me to be part of your day and to be able to create those first family portraits for you all. I hope to see you all in the future and I wish all of you the best of the best.

{ recent weddings }
July 14, 2008I have been shooting every weekend since the 5th of January. I just got back from Brazil, Peru Jamaica and Hawaii, all amazing. I’ll post those weddings soon. Promise.
But, I wanted to share some images I had on my desktop with you. meet Lindsay and Jonah. I met Lindsay on a model shoot I did with Taylor Pham and Ann Hamilton a couple of months ago. Lindsay really wanted some San Francisco wedding images, cause her and Jonah were married in NYC. Both beautiful cities, but not nothing like shooting on baker beach in sunset lighting. It’s one of my favorite locations. Let me know what think. thanks. enjoy. The last two images are from the model shoot. ![]()

{ aubrey and aaron’s highlights }

{ aubrey + aaron }
May 28, 2008Meet Aubrey and Aaron. A couple who created a fun filled weekend with family, friends and a little wine. I headed up to Winters, CA. on Friday to cover this wonderful wedding. Day one. While Aubrey and the girls were getting pampered in a SF salon, the guys were playing golf in the pooring rain. Aaron’s dad even got a hole in one on the 8th hole. wow.
The wedding took place on an amazing location called Bear Flag Farm. Ann shot along side of me. Be sure to check her blog for her point of view. Maria Chang did the hair and make up. Even Anton showed up to film for me my promo video. Well, we had the dream team in place and ready for action.
Talk about details, Aubrey and Aaron thought of everything. From a ceremony in the lavender fields to a croquet set for the guest to play during the cocktail hour, two lounge areas one with cigars and brandy and a live band for all of us to dance the night away. When night fell and it was time to leave they were wisked away in a vintage car. It was one stylish, fun and very emotional day.
Here are some of favorite picks. Trust me there are hundreds more that I would have loved to blog. enjoy. ![]()
