It’s crazy to me what is on the web these days. Gustavo Fernandez was kind enough to send over this article. Sorry, I can not translate. Can anyone help me, haha.

Here’s a direct link to website. click here

UPDATE: Javier Gimeno Martinez Sapiña from Spain was kind enough to send me a email and translate this for me.

Wedding photography is not a photography that specially attracts me, but i must confess that there are a bunch of weddingg photographers that get really great results. Both for those who like it or are pro´s (or willing to), they can find in Gene Higa a photographer to have an eye on.

This californian-born has a huge prestige in wedding photography an is known as the “Indiana Jones” of the weddings, as long as he has travelled trough all the World portraying these peculiar ceremony following a diversity o frites (Bali, Philiphines, Greece, India, Jamaica, Mexico,…). He is considere done of the 10 top photographers in USA.

I like Gene Higa for his great elegante, maybe the thing I admire the most in these type of images. Without being repetitive, his images get to transmit the happines and uniqueness in such and special day for a couple. He´s got a very disctintive style, and a huge variety (colour, b/w, …). Has a curiosity, let´s say he is worth 4800€, plus travelling. I hope that for those who work as wedding photographers, , Gene´s work become´s a source of inspiration

Thanks so much Gustavo and Javier. Good looking out. Gotta love it.

{ the longest day } episode 1

December 30, 2008

As some you may know know I was asked to take part in a fun project called, “The Longest Day”. Some of the hottest photographers in the industry came out to take part. Here’s a cut and paste from the Longest day website.

Thanks Ron:

It’s been a long time in the making, but it’s finally here. The premiere episode of the first online reality TV show for and about professional photographers, “The Longest Day,” this year’s buzz-building videos series for WPPI 2009.

The premise is simple: get 24 of the hottest professional photographers in the country (and Canada), bring them all to southern California armed only with the knowledge that they would be split into two teams and given an assignment to complete in just 24 hours. Once they arrive, they find out their assignment is to write, shoot, and edit an original short film about photography, AND an original PSA about the respective charity for which they are playing: ThirstRelief and Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep.

Over a series of ten episodes, you’ll see the drama; the comedy; and the battle for the best video and PSA as voted on by YOU. That’s right, as we lead up to WPPI (February 14-19) we’ll air the episodes. Then, about a week before, we’ll show the final short films and PSAs by both teams. You will then have an opportunity to vote for the videos you like the best. Thanks to our sponsors, the winning team will win $3,000 for their charity. The other charity will earn $2,000. (In this episode you’ll hear me mention $1,000 and $500 as the respective prizes. The ante got upped since the taping of this show).

EARN VALUABLE PRIZES
As we did last year, we’re offering some valuable prizes for those of you who participate in the viewing and sharing of the video series. First, anyone who adds any TLD video to their website or blog will get free admission to WPPI 2010 (note: that’s NEXT YEAR’S WPPI, not the upcoming one in 2009). Just get the embed code from the show player, then add to your blog/website. Once added, copy the URL for the specific post, then go to the “WPPI 2010 Freebie Form” at the top of this blog and fill it out. It’s that simple.

Also, for each episode we’ll have a drawing for a free song download from show sponsor Triple Scoop Music (A $60 value). You must leave a comment for that episode to be entered into the drawing. The deadline for each episode’s drawing is the post for the next episode (which will vary from 3-7 days).

For all you beautiful brides to be, please mark your calendars for the Grand Opening of THI Makeup Studio on December 20th … 21st in Palo Alto! Sorry, I won’t be able to make this event, as I will be in Los Angeles for the holidays.

Details below.

The amazing Taylor Pham is behind THI Makeup Studio and founder of THI Cosmetics. Taylor is a close friend whom I’ve known and had the pleasure of working with for many years, and I couldn’t be more happy for her. Please join Taylor and her team for the grand opening and two-day shopping soiree!

p.s. I love that Taylor used Ann Hamilton’s image, below, for her grand opening advertisement and studio wall! A few months ago, Taylor commissioned myself and Ann to do a photo shoot for THI Cosmetics. Taylor plans to use more images from that shoot in future advertisements.

December 8, 2008

ocial networking. It’s what’s happening right now in present time. I am addicted to facebook and twitter. What’s Facebook? What’s Twitter? You ask. Well, some of you reading this post may already know. But, for those who don’t. Both are websites or online text blogs. Where you can make new friends connect with old ones or just virtually socialize. I have actually connected with some childhood friends, set up some get togethers and had lots fun with it. I can run updates right from my iphone. So, for example if Ann Hamilton and I are out having dinner/drinks somewhere. I can post about it, my online friends can see it and possibly join us if they are in the neighborhoods. Trust me this has happened before. You can get instant text updates from anyone, add photos and even reply or direct message. It’s really a fun idea and I hope you will join me. Both websites are free and it just take a little effort on your part. I think I must Twitter or Facebook at least 5 times a day. Told ya I was addicted.

{ Ron and Tasra Dawson }

December 2, 2008

You have heard me speak of Ron Dawson before. Well, it’s time to virtually meet him and his lovely wife Tasra. They are the dynamic duo behind Cinematic Studios. Directors, producers and all around great people this couple do some of the most amazing videos I have ever seen. Ron is the creator and founder of the company while Tasra is the behind the scenes marketing director. Together they have created a huge buzz in the videography world. They were recently named one of the top 25 videographers in the world, so I feel very lucky to have been asked to do some cool hip portraits of the two before they move south to Georgia. They are moving onto bigger and better things and closer to our good friends at Lacour and Mr. Arias, so I know they are in good company.

Good luck you two, California will miss you.
